Pop Culture


Nowadays, people are very much influenced from the pop culture. First of all, let’s start with definition of pop culture. Pop culture is a culture which shows and reflects various events, famous people, objects and places. We are influenced by this culture even if we do not crave it. For example, the Academy movie Awards is a very big event in pop culture’s life. People are coming to this event from different countries, cities to see this big celebration of movies. In addition, even the statue of Oscar awards is a big part of pop culture. People are always having discussion about what happened in the field of pop culture or what happened last night on big event. Audience is comment on life of famous people. We are audience, we are always interested in life of our lovely stars, and we are watching their steps up and fallings down. What about objects, today we can see people with I pods, Blackberries and clothes from different brands. It is very important to own these things because crowd wants accept us only because of these stuffs. I do not want to say that is a good idea. In my opinion people should accept each other by their thoughts, views and literacy.
I started to be influenced from pop culture when I was thirteen or fifteen years old. Before, I could not aware what is it a pop culture. Today, I have I pod, feeding my self in Mc Donald’s restaurants and listening to different music which is very famous and not. I think that I started to be very influenced from pop culture only in U.S. because I have access to everything in this country through the Internet. I am very interested in a pop culture of the United States because most of the famous people are from this country, also most of famous places objects and events are having their beginning here. I started to like different shows that American people love very much. It is important to me to know everything about pop culture because of my major. I am always trying to follow pop culture trough movies, music, technology invitations because pop culture is our life, breath and the future.

Reading



The reading about text messaging is very interesting for me. Today, people started to worry about literacy and illiteracy of youth because of the text messaging. Young people write their messages with abbreviations, and grammar mistakes. Some researches think that grammar problems of students is not in text messaging, the problem is in schools and teachers. According to the text, young teachers do not have right skills to teach grammar, they even do not know what area and how they should teach. I think illiteracy is a very big problem for our society. We should start to write correctly even if technology has big influence on us. This reading completely changed my view on literacy because I found out that most of people are illiterate. In addition text messaging is a very big problem of communication between people. Before, people had big conversations between each other, now we are only texting messages through new cell phones. We should completely change our way of communication, and stop texting to each other.

Academy awards movie The Pianist


Nowadays most of people are living in peaceful countries which do not have wars and disasters. In 1940 the Nazi Germany stared to haunt on Jewish people. Germans started to discriminate and kill; they destroyed every piece of Jewish culture. It was the biggest genocide in human history. At this time all people suffered from Nazi occupation. It was very hard time for people because they had small amount of food, young people were sent on war, very close people were killed and whole world was in chaos.
The pianist which is the masterpiece of talented director Roman Polanski shows how Jewish people tried to survive in occupied Warsaw in Poland. The main character is Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrian Brody) who is a musician on local radio. He plays on piano, it is his life and it is a way how he gets money for his big family. When Nazi occupied Warsaw, they sent all Jewish in special ghetto where they could not find a job, and food. We see how people die because of hunger and inappropriate murders from Nazi soldiers. Szpilman tries to survive in this city by working on constructions and searching food in different places. Fortunately, he met a lot of good people who wanted to help him. He came to totally strangers and they did not refused to give him food and shelter. I think it is very good movie because it is a part of our history, our youth should see and know what happened at these times. I think that after this movie young people should respect and be appreciate to people-soldiers who were killed for our freedom.

Technology


In our time, it is very important to live with technology. I think I have several technology things that I cannot live without. The first important technology invitation for me is the Internet. Through the Internet I can be in touch with my family, talk with friends and do homework. Also through the internet I can do different researches, watch movies and read news. It is very important to have information about everything. The second important innovation from me is computer. Computer is the main part of student’s life because all homework in college we must do on computers. In addition, computer is a big object of entertainment. When I was very young I used to play video games every day. Also you can watch movies, connect with family and friends, listen to music and do all work by computers.

When my group heard about this project we immediately went to record people and their opinions. First of all we went to the cultural center of Chicago. In this beautiful place we met different people who have various opinions about pop culture and high culture. Most of them prefer high culture because some of them are musicians or working in cultural center. They told us that the high culture is their life and they can not change their view on it. Then we went to the millennium park where we found more people with various opinions. One woman said that she likes the high culture and pop culture, and she is trying to follow both because it very important to her to know something about both. I think it was very interesting assignment because it was very good listen to English speech and opinions of American people about pop and high cultures.

TV- Bonus Section

American culture has many popular TV shows which you can watch on very popular channels such as FOX, NBC, ABC and MTV. My favorite show is late night show with Conan O’Brien. This person is a very good actor, comedian and in my opinion good person. His show helped me to meet with American culture because all people of different ages watched his show. Unfortunately, he closed his show, but no forever. He went to Los Angeles, California to make his new show. I really liked his jokes and sketches about different topics. The interesting parts of his show are sketches and when he invited different famous people and talked with them. I very like this show, now I am always watching his show on You Tube, but he promised to his audience that he will be ready for his new show in the end of May or in the beginning of June. I wish to go at least on one of his show. Television started to be very boring without his show, now TV companies presented us only two normal late night shows with David Letterman and Jay Leno. I hope to see his show again.
